FIU’s Focus on Economically Advantaged



Having grown up in Latin America, Candido Viyella is very active in the Miami Hispanic community, and is currently the president and CEO of Earthview Capital LLC. As a philanthropist, Candido Viyella is the chairman emeritus of Jackson Health Foundation and a member of the FIU Foundation Board.

The Florida International University Foundation, Inc. (FIU Foundation) is a nonprofit organization that has existed for more than five decades. FIU Foundation seeks to advance Florida International University by soliciting and facilitating donations.

Florida International University is known for its high minority population, which stands at about 90 percent of its entire population. FIU also supports many economically disadvantaged students. According to a survey, almost 49 percent of all financial aid recipients in the university are from households with an annual income below $30,000. The university also ranks as the first in America in giving master’s and bachelor’s degrees to Hispanic students.
